While everyone is aware of the value of good roofing, many people are unaware that roof waterproofing systems also include a number of specialized techniques to protect roofs from leaks and water damage. These roofing techniques can help prevent roof leaks, damage caused by hail and snow, structural deterioration, mold growth, shrinkage, and more. In short, it is very important to waterproof your roof because it can cost you money and time if your roof gets damaged due to water leaks and other factors. Our mission is clear: to provide you with unmatched craftsmanship, exceptional customer service, and durable waterproofing solutions that will stand the test of time. When you choose us, you're choosing a team that understands the unique challenges of roofing in Chicago and is committed to protecting your home from the elements.

Prevent Leaks

Sealing is one of the most important roof repairs and waterproofing techniques for many reasons. Liquid roof coating is a thick liquid emulsion generally known as EPDM or ethylene propylene diene terpolymer. The letters EPDM stand for ethylene-propylene-diene, and the letters PRD for poly-vinyl-chloride. Before the liquid version came onto the market, rolled rolls of this rubber were commonly used for roof repairs.

There are many uses for this product including roof repair and waterproofing roofs. In fact, EPDM and vinyl coating have been around for over 30 years and has been consistently used as a roofing material. This solid form of waterproofing rubber has been in existence for many years, and is an extremely strong and durable coating.

Proper Materials

The problem with liquid rubber is that it only works as quickly as it's applied. Therefore, it does not stay put once applied and will eventually start to weaken and flake. This weakens the roof space even more and allows for leaks and water damage to take place. Even worse, if you have small roof leaks, it is easy to conceal them with shingles or other roofing materials, but when you have a larger leak, you cannot hide it as easily, and this makes repairs more difficult. With the cracks and leaks occurring, you risk having the entire roof to cave in, and this may be too costly in the long run. In addition, having a roof leak also costs you money due to having to pay to replace your roof and repair all of the damaged areas.

Cost Effective

The final type of waterproofing roofs is the liquid coating. Liquid roof coating comes as a liquid sprayer, a roll on applicator pad, or a roller underlayment. There are advantages and disadvantages to liquid coatings. The advantage of the liquid coating is that it is much easier to apply, the material dries much faster, and the material is stronger than traditional EPDMs and other waterproofing oils.

Unfortunately, the disadvantages to rubber roofing are many years in the past. The material has not proven to be any more effective at holding up to temperature extremes. Additionally, the rubber is one of the most expensive materials on the market today.

Many companies have moved away from rubber waterproofing roofs because of this. In addition, the rubber will not provide you with any type of EPDM or other liquid barrier that will prevent water from seeping through.

While many roofing contractors still recommend the use of these waterproofing roofs, you may want to consider other options for your home or business. If your roof isn't leaking, isn't causing damage, or has proven to be ineffective over time, then there are certainly better choices for you to make. You don't want to waste a lot of time and money fixing a problem that doesn't exist. Save yourself a lot of time and money by trying out one of the other options above.
